D5 news Roundup
The D5 Conference produced most of the tech news yesterday.
- Palm announced the Folio, a device that took two years to develop and is also two years too late. Ars summed it up best: Palm officially out of ideas, debuts 1990s palmtop concept. Make no mistake, Palm will survive, but its reputation as an innovator is gone.
- Microsoft introduced Surface, a very cool 30inch touchscreen computer table that makes it clear that multi-input touchscreen’s are the next step in computer UI. I predict that Apple will have a Mac with touchscreen in less than a year.
- Steve Jobs showed an AppleTV with YouTube integration. A very small step in the right direction.
- The Livescribe smart pen or “Paper-Based Computing Platform” was the coolest thing shown. The videos in the website better explain the uses of the device.
